Sarah Palin plainly beat Joe Biden. I recognized it as it happened. In Frank Luntz’s group, everybody but one was moved toward John McCain.
This is the greatest, most important vice presidential nomination ever. She will be president.

God, what a waste of time that debate was.
I’m sorry I got distracted by the much more interesting task of sorting my socks. Between her incessant sound-bites and his droning I tuned out pretty early.

I don’t think “waste of time” is the best description of that debate. Mrs. Palin proved that she could hold her own. This will stop one of the lines of attack on McCain: that she’s the Republican Geraldine Ferraro. Now he needs to turn it around. He’s got a month.
Michael Totten’s comment at Commentary needs to be repeated everywhere, immediately. I scratched my head last night when I heard it, but figured I must be the one in error because there was no way Biden could be that wrong.
Even the McCain campaign missed it, but the statement really is quite bewildering. The closest explanation I could think of is that he was thinking of presence of US & French troops during the Lebanese civil war twenty years ago, except, if I recall correctly, (1) it wasn’t a NATO operation, but rather a UN peacekeeping force, which (2) had no mandate to fight Hezbollah, which is partly why (3) they drove us out, and not other way around.
George, you forget that it’s Sarah Palin who doesn’t know anything about foreign relations. If Joe Biden said it, it’s either wise or else the sort of adorably embarrassing things he says from time to time but doesn’t mean. The fact that Joe Biden just made the sort of revealing mistake that would have destroyed Sarah Palin isn’t the type of thing to get reported.
If McCain says it, then he’s old & senile. If Palin says it, she’s a ditzy bimbo who’s way out of her league. When Biden says it, he’s demonstrating his mastery of foreign policy.
This is beyond infuriating.
