What sort of racist idiot looks at a cartoon of a man-eating chimp and thinks, “the subtle message was clear*: comparing President Obama to a chimpanzee”? For the love of Pete, Obama famously delegated the writing of the pork bill to Congressional Democrats. The day Americans can’t compare their Congresscritters to monkeys without being called racist is the day a part of this country dies.
*How clear can a subtle message be?

Ignorant leaders of the New York Post and others may think everything is fair game, and certainly criticizing the president of the United States is just fine. Yet while everyone seems to be caught up in the delusion of a post-racial America, we cannot forget the reality of the racial America, where African-Americans were treated and portrayed as inferior and less than others.
Disagree, and you’re ignorant!
Seriously, one of the things that distinguishes that cartoon from pretty much every other monkey-in-politics gag is that it isn’t anthropomorphized at all: it looks like an actual chimp, not like a person — let alone a specific person — at all.
Of course, I’m probably just ignorant…
Ward Connerly has a good point. By referring to “divisive Ward Connerly initiatives,” Obama made it clear that he’s not interested in an open discussion on the topic. Open discussions are always divisive because people don’t agree. Either you’re for open discussion, or you’re against divisiveness.
NB Of course, Obama’s not against divisive policies when they benefit his supporters. It’s hard to think of a more divisive policy than discriminating among job and college applicants based on race, but Obama openly supports that.
